COSTA CONCORDIA: PARBUCKLING OPERATIONS TO BEGIN TOMORROW

15/09/2013 - Isola del Giglio

Parbuckling operations of the Costa Concordia will begin tomorrow, Monday 16 September.

Based on the weather-marine forecast for the Giglio Island issued by the Central Station of the Department of Civil Protection, in coordination with the Weather Forecast Station for the Tuscany Region at the LAMMA Consortium, Titan/Micoperi Consortium technicians confirm the possibility to go ahead with the operations tomorrow. In fact, the expected values for wind direction and force (inserire quello della previsione) and significant wave height (inserire quello della previsione) fall within the range of operating feasibility thresholds.

All preliminary operations for rotating the wreck have been completed. Therefore, based on the information provided, Concordia Emergency Commissioner, Franco Gabrielli, in agreement with the President of the Monitoring Observatory, Maria Sargentini, have confirmed the parbuckling for tomorrow. Operations are expected to begin shortly after 6 a.m., after the last ferryboat leaves Giglio Island for Porto Santo Stefano.

We remind all media operators who are interested in following the operations from the Giglio Island that it is absolutely necessary to be accredited by and no later than 7 p.m. today. The accreditation form is available at www.theparbucklingproject.com. We will not be able to guarantee accreditation in case of requests sent after the above deadline.
Finally, journalists and media operators can reach Giglio Island by a special ferryboat service leaving Porto Santo Stefano on Monday at 4.45 a.m. (meeting time 4.30 a.m.) and returning to the mainland at the end of the parbuckling. The service is available only upon reservation via e-mail to be sent to ferry@theparbucklingproject.com
